Always Have A Book With Me
Having the Kindle app on my phone makes reading on the fly a breeze. Waiting in a long line? No worries, I just pull out my phone and read a few pages. Shopping with my indecisive daughter? …keep on lookin’ girl, I’m just going to sit here and read! The best part is that all of my devices are in sync so if I’m reading on my phone app but then switch to my Kindle eReader it will ask me if I want to jump to the furthest page read. Convenient!
Access To Hundreds Of Books
It doesn’t matter what I’m in the mood for, I have access to all of it on my Kindle. I could never pack all of those books in my purse or suitcase! When going on vacation I love that I don’t have to worry about which books make the cut or whether I’ll have room for a bunch of books (trust me, my shoes and clothes will already push my luggage over the weight limit!). I have hundreds of eBooks to choose from on my Kindle!
Anonymity Of What I’m Reading
Oftentimes I’m reading a book with a crazy, hot cover (maybe I lick it, maybe I don’t….) and I don’t always want the guy next to me at the license branch privy to what I’m indulging in. Or, you know, titles like “Dirty Bad Wrong” (love you Jade West and your dirty books!). Also, without a traditional book in hand it’s less likely that people will stop to ask “oh heyyyy, what are you reading?” and try to have a conversation with you about said book when you’d rather be reading vs talking.
Read For Free (Or Cheap) With Kindle Ebooks
The amount of free eBooks I acquire (all legally, folks!) is crazy – I love it! Some new authors, some loved by thousands. A lot of times they’re free for only a short time so keep an eye out on your email notifications and online groups. In addition, you can often find sales on eBooks for $0.99 which is a steal! Don’t forget about Kindle Unlimited – love my KU subscription that gives me access to thousands of books for less than two fancy Starbucks drinks a month. Downloading eBooks to my Kindle makes reading hundreds of books every year affordable.
Dictionary Lookup Option
I’m embarrassed to admit how many times I come across a word in a book that makes me question my education. The dictionary option on the Kindle is awesome – just hold your finger down on the word and it pops up with the definition. Ohhh, that’s what that word means. Huh. Learn something new every day!
Highlights and Notes
Highlighting and making notes in my eBooks is one of my favorite features! Quotes, memorable scenes, notes about how I feel during a specific moment. I can reference them in the eBook itself or, another great feature, they’re all pulled in to GoodReads for me to reference without going back to the book. I especially love this when I’m writing a review for a book and want to pull a quote or remember how I felt while reading.
Syncs with GoodReads
I use GoodReads to keep track of what I’m reading, my TBR list, reviews, and more. The Kindle app syncs with GoodReads so whenever I start a new book it gives me the option to mark as “Currently Reading” on GoodReads. As mentioned above, it also pulls in all of my highlights and notes to GoodReads which is perfect for referencing.
WhisperSync
WhisperSync is an awesome feature that allows you to seamlessly switch back and forth between a Kindle eBook and the Audible audiobook version. I love to read but sometimes I’m doing tasks that require me to listen instead – like cooking, cleaning, or driving – so being able to switch to the audio version allows me to easily continue on with the story until I can pick up the eBook version again. For WhisperSync enabled books, once you buy the Kindle version add the audio companion and you can easily switch back and forth between the two.
